Within the Software Products table, there is a column for Product ID. This Product ID looks to be unique to each Product Name and Product Version.
i.e. - Product Name "A" with Product Version "B" would have Product ID "1"
and Product Name "A" with Product Version "C" would have Product ID "2"

Is this a standard within SMS for all programs and versions?
If so, is there a master listing somewhere?

What I am trying to do is set up collections using Product ID's as identification for software products.

Following is a couple of Product ID's, Product Names, and Product Versions for comparison. Please reply if you are able to determine if these #'s match what you have in your site.

Product ID Product Name Product Version
246 Microsoft Office 8.0
552 Microsoft Office 2000 9.1.2719
479 Microsoft Office 2000 9.0.2617
509 Microsoft Office 2000 9.0.2719
508 Microsoft Office 2000 9.0.2609
500 Microsoft Office 2000 9.0.2601
489 Microsoft Office 2000 9.0.2717
2575 Visio 2000 6.00
4024 WinZip 8.0 (3105)

Any help is greatly appreciated, or any suggestions on another way to track exact software name and versions would help.

Thanks!

anongod@hotmail.com

"Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing."

I have asked the same question - if SMS has a special package ID for each piece of software surely there is a master list somewhere !!! I've looked and found nothing. !!!!!

SMS has three core tables for software: Files, Products, and Inventory.

- The Products table is a list of company name, product name and product version. Each record is given a Product ID. Product information is taken from the inventory file's header. If no information is available then the product ID is assumed to be 0 (zero).

- The Files table is a list of each unique software file name, version, size and Product ID. Each record is given a File ID.

- The Inventory table is a list of clients (SMS Record ID), File ID and file count.

In SMS Admin Console (or WBEM ODBC) you'll see SoftwareProduct, Software File and UnknownFile.

- SoftwareProduct is a view of the SMS Product and Inventory tables.

- SoftwareFile is a view of the SMS File and Inventory tables.

- UnknownFile is a view of the SMS Product and Inventory tables where ProductID = 0.

Hope this helps.
