Software frozen on a 4k Version3

I wanted to purchase a STMI2 card for my 4k ( ver3) and set up VoIP calling to a 4K ( ver6). ALso had a 4k (ver 4) that i would do the same.
i checked for licenses and real estate and had plenty of both on each.

Siemens has come back now and stated that they could not major Mac them, and that the Software is frozen.
ie.. It won't work

I was under the impression that if you had paid for liceense that would be all you need.

Can someone help, are they right.
Not a whole lot of trust with Siemens corp.

They state that the only way to make this work is to upgrade.

Siemens may not be willing to do the upgrade, but you might find a reseller that might - like Black Box Network Services, and you can also usually buy a refurbed board from them with a nice warranty at a far lower cost.

Question comes in to play if you need a change in your licensing to support it. You may have plenty of port licenses, etc, but you may not be licensed for the IP functionality - the switch has tons of capabilities but you need a license file to turn them on if it is not already. If Siemens refuses to license the functionality on that software version you're SOL - if it is already licensed then basically (simplified) you put in the board, possibly add it to the BCSU database if needed, partition how much you want to be SIP vs IP (if V3 supports that - I have V5), and you should be good to go.

So you might want to ask around a bit or try to find out if you're already licensed for the IP functionality and then maybe you can just do it....

Yesterday a bit miffed ... We have multiple 4k and different versions here and saw the email from Siemens in a certain fashion.
Had time to think last night.
If the 4k (v3) already is licensed for IP functionality ( I have 2 IPDA's and IP phones already on this system).
If I have spare Licenses already
and if I have the real estate

I can get the STMI2 board from Black box and "Iamnotthere" sent me previously the documentation to-do the programming.
I am willing to jump in to the deep end.

Siemens wants to configure Cornet-IP between multiple switchs on the network? Whats that mena.
I thought Cornet-ip was using dedicated trunks, hows that differ from H323 / SIP.. Or AM i confused.

I think if you already have IP phones on the system you are licensed for IP and the loadware is there. As far as I understand it, a comscendo license is a comscendo license and can be used for a TDM phone, IP phone, trunk, analog port or whatever other port, so I think you're good to go there.

I have CorNet set up on channelized T1's right now (ISDN) between my sites and understand how that works. Don't quote me on this because I'm not an expert on all things IP, but I assume that CorNet IP is merely taking that same T1 and using it as a data circuit with 1.544 MBps of bandwidth in both directions. Instead of having of 23 ISDN B channels and one D channel on the T1, the circuit will support however many calls back and forth that the bandwidth allows in the same way a regular ethernet line can support only so much traffic. I might also hazard a guess the CorNet setup might still have some way of allocating some finite number of call paths to keep it from getting overloaded.

So probably the main difference is the circuit that connects the sites, and which board they are using to support the CorNet. I don't think it goes out through your regular "internet" connection - I would assume it is still privatized somehow.

Have fun. You really can't screw anything up by adding that board (as long as you don't mess with programming for anything else) - it will either work or not work!

Siemens stopped selling major mac on the version 3 in Sept. 2010. But if you have enough comscendo license and the physical space on the shelf, you can add a Stmi card for IP trunking. There is no special license for it. You should be careful when adding the card to hardware map and make sure you have enough timeslots to support the b-channels you expect to support.

Siemens supports Major MAC on the most recent three versions of the HiPath 4000. Therefore now supported is V4, V5, and V6.
V3 and earlier customers should have been offered the opportunity to upgrade prior to the release of V6, usually with pretty good prices. This strategy is not all that different from any other technology-related product.
To see the current state of your licensing, open a ComWin/Expert Access session, and type: DIS-CODEW;

Hamncheese is correct - you are on your own now, or call another vendor such as BlackBox.

You have a HiPath 4000 V6 in your network?? Are you trained on it?

I am about to get advanced training on the V6 within a month.

Also heard from Siemens that Major MAC for V4 ends March 31, 2012.
