I have recently upgraded to SMS 2003 and still have a mixed environment of clients but most are Legacy clients. I have noticed that software distribution is only working on the Legacy clients. Has any one seen the before?? The installation fails whether I am using the software installation account or not. Help.....

Thanks in advance

Well one difference between the two is Legacy clients will use cap's where advanced clients use mp's so look at you MP's.

tests for them are as follows:

checks connectivity

You can check if the MP is ok from the client by checking the following URL:

point name>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist

If the page comes up blank you're OK, but if you get an error then generally your MP is unavailable or misconfigured

tbrennans thanks for your response,

I was able to get point name>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist to work and it opened a blank page but when I ran the SMS_MP_Check.exe program I received and error on line 9 character 1 of the .vbs script. Do you still think it is the Management point causing the problem or something else? Are there any logs I can view either on the client or on the server that may help explain why the program is failing?

This is the suggestions SMS gives in the failure message 10055:

Possible cause: This message most commonly occurs when the program’s command-line executable file could not be found, when a required drive letter connection to a distribution point could not be established, or when the program is configured to use the SMS Software Installation Account but the account is not specified, could not be found, or does not have the appropriate permissions.
Solution: Check each of the items listed above. This program will be retried.

As I said before I get this error with or without the software installation account.

Well with the advanced client it will use the local system account to run advert (or the logged in user).... by any chance are you pulling the source files from anywhere other than the DP? if so the computer would need rights to that share
