I was wondering if anybody could provide feedback regarding these 3 backup softwares:

Veritas NetBackup
Legato Networker
Comvault Galaxy

I'm interested in pros and cons for these three. Especially usability and how user friendly the interfaces are.

When we first purchased a Netapp Filer, we also bought Legato. The tech sent to install it had to be sent back to his office with his tail between his legs because he couldn't figure the software out. Our vendor then flew in the supposedly "2nd best Legato expert in the country". He stayed 3 days, and still, the software did not function.
Looking for a Windows based solution, we went with Veritas Netbackup. We brought in a contract guy who had to re-write Veritas' documentation. After dozens of hours on the phone with Veritas (mostly on hold) we had the product running. The interface was clunky and counterintuative. We also found we could not retain data for our one year retention time and be able to restore it. NetBackup simply timed out.
So, we bought Galaxy, installed it in half a day, and it works great. Take a look at If you're backing up Windows servers, Galaxy is the only way to go. Microsoft owns part of CommVault, and you will find CommVault releases its backup software updates before Microsoft releases new software. For example, I had Galaxy for 2003 Server before 2003 server even shipped.

Consider that MicroSoft is installing Veritas in its shops and ask yourself about Microsofts commitment sto CV outside of getting their investment back.
