My system is a Definity G3si V11 with an R011i software load. According to the system capacity we have 5 IP softphones available. I would like to use one of these to setup a softphone user who will work from home two days out of the week. What will I need in order to set this user up so that they may use current hard line phone when in the office and softphone when away?

A clan card. Medpro as well if you want to run Softphone in roadwarrior mode. Download and install the software and your ready to go. You will need to open ports in your firewall. 1719 and 1720 to the address of your clan and the udp ports of your network region to the address of your medpro.

Will I have to do any programming changes to the users current ext?

yes, setup a "Security Code", which is needed to login (I usually use '2468'), and stroke "IP Softphone?" to a "y" on page 1, and "Multimedia mode?" to "enhanced" on page 2.

Ok, thank you I will try it and let you know.

I have attempted to set this up using my extension here locally. I have changed all programming as instructed, however it won’t login. The only item I haven’t done yet is changing the firewall setting for ports 1719 and 1720. I am waiting for IT but was told there is no firewall internally. Did I miss something ?

you are trying to login the the LAN IP address of the CLAN, correct? could be your CLAN is not administered correctly, or your IP Network Regions are not setup, chekc those as well, and what codec set you are using.

Yes, when trying to connect via softphone I am using IP address for MEDPRO which is the same as the IP address for CLAN. All are setup with network region 1 and when I check network region 1 it is set to codec 1. I am not too familiar with this area of programming.

Codec Info
Codec = G.711MU
Silence suppression = NO
Frames/ pack = 2
Pack size = 20

The IP address for yor CLAN should NOT be the same as the MEDPRO. they are 2 distinct address's. You can ONLY login to the IP address of the CLAN.

I would add G.711MU, G.729 and G.723-6.3K to your IP codec lists. Also you will need to do a 'change ip-network-map" and put in the LAN IP ranges needed to map to NR 1.

Your biggest issue seems to be using the wrong address for the H323 Gatekeeper. this needs to be the CLAN, not the MEPPRO.

Ok, I added G.711MU, G.729 and G.723-6.3K to IP codec lists 1. I was doing a disp ip-inter to find IP address for MEDPRO which was wrong i think. When I do a list node-names i see each have a differant IP address.? I am not sure what you are saying that I need to change "Also you will need to do a 'change ip-network-map and put in the LAN IP ranges needed to map to NR 1.Your biggest issue seems to be using the wrong address for the H323 Gatekeeper"

Can you break this down a little more please?

Make sure the version of IP Softphone is compatable with CM1 software. You probably need Softphone version 4 at the latest.

I am now using Avaya IP softphone V4 and still no luck.

Which Windows OS are you running?
The roadwarrior mode of the Avaya Softphone version 6 (and also older versions) does not opertae (registers at the CLAN boards) under Vista unless SP2 (of version 6) is being used.

It is now working I still had the wrong IP address. Once I changed it to the CLAN it registered. I will have to test it thru VPN next. Thanks all for your help and supprt!!

Hi all,

I can register a softphone remotely, however I keep getting badwidth issues. I am VPNing to the site and I can get some phone function, directory etc. But I cannot make calls either telecommuter or Road warrior. Is this just bandwidth issue or something deeper.

CM3.1
IP Softphone 6.0

thanks guys

Doesn't sound like a bandwidth issue to me. telecommuter uses very little BW. I would start by confirming that softphone works on your LAN. If so, then test via VPN. If it does work on the LAN but not via VPN, then look at your firewall.

If you are using the included 5 softphone licenses, they are more likely to be V5 than V6, and the IP softphone 6 client would not work. Try the V5 download from avaya.com
