Softphone Presence Question

Hello,

I have an IP Office Server Edition R9 SP4. I have a handful of users using the IP Office Softphone. The rest of the users have 9608 hardphones. Some users are using One X Portal. In the One X Portal under the system directory you can view the presence of any user, whether they are available on DND or on a call etc. In the Softphone I only seem to get the presence of other Softphone users, hard phones all provide an indication that they are offline. Is this working as designed or is there a way to get the presence of the hard phones on the Softphone application?

Any insight is appreciated.

Working as designed.

One way around it is to install Call Assistant for all the users but at the expense of requiring a license for each.

I've been banging on about this to Avaya since R7 beta trials...

I wish they'd get with the program and provide a softphone that looks like one of the deskphones like all the other VoIP systems we use.
 
They have had a lot of focus on soft phones lately. Previously Avaya used a Counterpath product for all IPO soft phones. In R9.1 they moved to an in house developed soft phone and is used in their enterprise suite. This is due to the Counter Path licensing agreement expiring. The exception to this is on a MAC, which still requires a Counter Path product and separate license from Avaya.

I would expect them to focus on the MAC soft phone and then start adding feature enhancements to the Communicator soft phone....
