Hi all.

Some documents mention that the Avaya IP office video soft-phone is no longer supported on R9.1 and that it has been replaced by the communicator and then some documents mention that the soft-phone can still be used.
I have attempted to connect a soft-phone to R9.1 and it didn't work. It gave a license error despite the power user license being there.

Can someone please clarify and if someone has managed to use the soft-phone on R9.1 please show how.

That having been verified why wont it work on mine?

Apperently it only works if you upgrade to 9.1 not if it's a new install

IP Office Video Softphone
This guide covers the installation of the IP Office Video Softphone application. Though the application installs on individual user PCs, it also requires configuration changes on the IP Office system. Therefore, only installers with with system configuration experience should install the application.

Support
This installation manual covers installation of the Version 4.0 softphone on IP Office Release 9.1 systems:

• Existing legacy Version 3.2 softphones are only supported for existing users on systems upgraded to IP Office Release 9.1. When upgraded, a Legacy Softphone license is created for every existing Teleworker, Office Worker, Mobile Worker and Power User license. The Legacy Softphone licenses are then used to enable softphone users.
• The new Version 4.0 softphone is supported for new Mac users.
• It supports Mac OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 10.9 (Mavericks) and 10.10 (Yosemite). Existing legacy Version 3.2 softphone users wanting to use those OS's should also be upgraded to Version 4.0.
• The Mac IP Office Video Softphone Version 4.0 uses a separate Mac IP Softphone license. It can also use the Legacy Softphone licenses if no further Mac IP Softphone licenses are available.
• New Windows users should be installed with Avaya Communicator.

I am using R9.1 new install and want to use soft-phone on windows PC.
Will this be possible?

Then downgrade to R9.0 and back to R9.1 to collect the legacy softphone license.

Kind regards

Gunnar

Noted.
One last question. When I downgrade to R9.0 won't I need and an upgrade license to upgrade back to R9.1?

As long as your system has been running R9.1 before, and you made a few external calls with it on that level, it will allow upgrades from any lower versions.

Kind regards

Tinos,

I have been struggling with this for a few days myself. Release notes for 9.1 clearly state Softphone is supported, but don't roll back to 9.0 if the customer has Windows 8.1. From the days of reading I have done Softphone wont work on Windows 8.1 regardless of whether you have release 9 or 9.1. You have to use Avaya Communicator 2.xx. Also if you want to use the TAPI interface, that used to work on Avaya Softphone, Avaya have removed that from Communicator.

Video Softphone works fine on windows 8.1, and windows 10

If that is the case, as per the link, it says that windows 8.x is "Not Supported" for the softphone Does that mean it works but Avaya will not support the product any more.

I will probably start a new thread on Windows 8.x cause I dont want to Hijack this thread.

Just quickly though, where you had the Softphone working with Windows 8.x, did the TAPI function (click to dial from a CRM package)

It means Avaya won't support the "old" Softphone on Windows 8.x, not the same as it won't work but if you run into trouble Avaya probably will say it's an OS issue.

About the CRM part I don't know of any such function in the Video Softphone, TAPI has nothing to do with the softphone.

So does this mean I still have to downgrade to R9.0 and then back up R9.1?

No as that won't work.
Only an upgrade from 9.0 with a working softphone license to 9.1 does.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Must be some geniuses working at that BP, my first priority would be to find a new one.
As Peter said, there's no good reason for returning the SD card because of a busted chassis. (good pun there, Peter [smile])

They probably double-swapped your SD and forgot to send the new licenses.

This reminds me of a shipment I received 5 years ago, a Nortel switch with custom ventilation.
Package looked fine on the outside, but the switch inside had been murdered by a forklift, entry hole patched with a new address label

Opening the box, it was pretty obvious what had happened.

I've never heard so many "It wasn't me" when backtracking the shipment...

Kind regards
