Soft Console Flickering

Hi,

Has anybody experienced the Soft Console flickering every second or so like its refreshing?

I have a customer with 2 sites, both using Dell Desktop PC's with Windows 2000 Pro and Softconsole 4.1.6. If the receptionist leaves the PC alone for 5 or so minutes the console starts to flicker and looks like it is refreshing the 4 windows. If you then move the mouse or hit a key the flickering stops and everything will be OK until there is no activity again.
You can simulate the flicker by a single mouse click at the top of the console screen (where you maximise/minimise).

If I run the softconsole on my laptop (windows XP pro) there is no problem.

Completely stumped! Closed all other apps running, changed the mouse/keyboard to USB and reinstalled the softconsole. Any advice other than changing the PC appreciated

You may be able to change the refresh rate of the video adaptor to see if this helps. Most monitors run on 60 hertz, perhaps (for whatever reason) you need a faster refresh. You could try changing it to 70 hertz. Also see if there are any video driver updates from Dell.

Good ideas, but I already though of them.

I also tried different screen resolution/colour depth settings but they made no difference either. It's the 5 minute delay that gets me. If it was doing it all the time I could understand, but something must be waiting for a certain period of inactivity on the keyboard/mouse before kicking in and when it does it's interfering with the softconsole. If I wait 4 minutes then move the mouse it still takes another 5 minutes before the flickering starts, like a timer has reset to zero. Looks like I'm going to have to convince the customer to change the hardware even though it meets the Avaya requirements.

Just out of curiousity, what is the screen saver set to, 5 minutes? Maybe the screen saver mode is affecting it somehow.

Screen saver is off and all power saving settings set to never. (first thing I checked)

Dell pc's are funny old beasts sometimes, they do things no other PC does even with identical software and hardware etc.

I don't think it can be that as other apps aren't flickering and the Softconsole itself is steady, it's just the contents of the 4 windowed sections inside the console that flicker (BLF group, directory, hold and current call windows).

Did you try to repair of the softconsole in windows add/remove programs?
