Is anybody using SocketMagix or a similar product to administer Legends via IP? I have a number of Legends across the country and am a little leery using dedicated lines, barge codes, etceras.

rkochis, I have Magix systems across the country that I dial into using winSPM and barrier codes. There are threads on how to set it up if you do a search. You don't need Socket Magix to administer your switches.

I think using the Socket would probable be much faster than a dial-up at "24". Then there's the transfer (*10 ) that you need help with on a dial-up, unless there is another option?

Reggie,

I would like to be able to set this up without dedicating a trunk to it all. That was why I was wondering if anyone had used this type of product.

Thanks will search for this info also. Always a chance to learn something new.

I use Socket Magix (from Northwest Interactive) to administer 2 remote Legends across an IP network. It's great!! Now that I have it, I wonder how I ever managed without it. Note that it doesn't actually give you a "faster" connection than 2400 baud, since it connects to the same serial admin port that you can in person. But the convenience of an instantly accessible connection across the net is well worth it.

Socket magix works good. But don't be afraid to do the old dial up if needed. You don't have to have the customer transfer you either if you have the auto attendant answering of a DID going to a MB. If it's auto attendant, you can put **10 or a VM box *8**10. IP may be faster for you though.

Killbox,

I must be missing something with the AA stuff. I have tried **10 etc. on an autoattendant and receive 'invalid command' or some other message. What gives?

I just gave you the options on what you can do. Do you have a Magix or a Legend?

One other way to do this is to use a T&R Extension port set for TRANSFER ONLY in the mail and connect it to a vacant trunk port.

Set the trunk port as dedicated Remote Access, and that way when you transfer to the T&R Port from the Auto Attendant, you go right to Remote Access, and then you can access *10.

I would like to hear from gumbytr about this thread.

I have suddenly discovered I know not how to order this unit.

Merlinman, (in your option)

Now that I have set up an "IP" into all the Merlin Messaging systems, is Socket something I should look at for my Merlin Magix's ?

For the price of Socket MAgix, seems easier to use PC Anywhere or Radmin to connect to a computer that is serially connected to the switch.

Pep, that is a good point, the only thing is, I know not the price of a socket magix. (But I'll bet is less than a cheap PC.)

This particular customer has a UNIX machine next to the MAGIX, but of course, like everyone else now, they have TONS AND TONS of surplus PC's sitting around.

I may suggest that to their AE as well.....

Thanx,

Well the first online source I checked for pricing on Socket Magix was selling it for $877.50.

Ttech, I'd love to hear about this. It just might be the trick. Hopefully it would handle that breakneck 2400 baud.

Pepperz.

I never used one but it looks pretty easy to use . It has a web based setup like a linksys router IT says 100% satisfaction garuntee > I guess you can't go wrong by tring it out

Another one that has been mentioned eslwhere on the board is this one

Let us know if you get one and how it works out
