Hi All,

Im looking to create a website that is a Social Networking Platform, i.e. Similar to Facebook, Myspace and Bebo.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the technology/architecture/Languages i should use to build such a site? Bearing in mind longevity and performance.

Also, does anyone know of the technologies used by Facebook or Bebo?

Ive been reading about Google's new OpenSocial platform but the emphasis seems to be the Applications API rather than building a hosting site.

Thanks guys...

Bearing in mind longevity

Bearing in mind longevity, I'd ask - do we really need yet another social networking site which will go the way of the dodo very soon as probably no-one will really use it?

Indeed your right but my aim is not to create a Social Network Platform for the prime use of socialising. Its focus is NOT on socialising and has a select target user group. I am interested in FBs/Bebos application design/architetcure for scalability and generally curiousity of how it is done in the commercial sector.
