snmpCollect and netmon crashing

I am running NNM 6.31 on Solaris 8. Recently, I have been doing a large amount of discovering of remote segments. For the last 2 days every time I bring up ovw snmpCollect and netmon crash with in 15 – 20 min. I have tried doing a ovstart on each but no luck. It seems that I have to do a complete ovstop on everything before I can get snmpCollect and netmon back at least for a few min. I can’t find anything in the logs (I may just be looking in the wrong logs). Any help would be appreciated.

Is this a new installation, or have you upgraded ?

Have you checked for the new NNM patches on the HP site ? (

Is netmon OK if you don't run snmpCollect ?

Oh yea... questions...
1 do you happen to be running 280R's?
2 will ovstop and ovstart commands hang and not work?
3 do you have to reboot before it will work again?

If these are your symptoms, getting the latest patches
from Sun's web site (as of Nov 15th 2002) will not work.

I have been struggling with this for about a MONTH.
HP apparently uses the loopback port for some things,
and under heavy load, the loopback port appears to
just go away. HP has not been able to tell us exactly
WHAT OpenView NNM is doing to the stinkin loopback port.
It only happens to us when we are running discovery.

When this happens, does ifconfig -a show a loopback port? EMS Architect
