We have 6 IBM AIX 5.1 boxes and I want to get SNMP running on them so that we can track usage with SolarWinds. My AIX guy can get the snmpd daemon running in the right community, but all I can see are the interfaces and not CPU, DISK, etc. We also have Oracle 9 and want to monitor that for performance as well.

Any tips?

I will have the same needs in a few weeks, for the moment i think that perfagent is necessary...

did you try looking at the "trees"(for lack of better word) that you are allowed view is it restricted to a certain oid or to .1 which would allow full access..

We just migrated from Compaq Alpha DS20 to a new P615 running AIX 5.1. We were also using Solarwinds to monitor the previous machine and now we can't see anything other than link status on the new system. I called Solarwinds and they told me that the AIX box needed to support RFC 1514 Host-Resource-Mib and to talk to our vendor for compliance. Have you made any headway on getting Solarwinds to play nice with your AIX box?

Sloop,

No we haven't. I have done some research on SolarWinds and the Host-Resource-Mib. From what I have gathered, the Orion product will not work even in the new release. In order to properly monitor these boxes, you need the Engineer's tools with the SNMP RealTime Viewer, MIB Walk and MIB Browser. I have loaded the RFC 1514 MIB and got limited trends (disk attributes) but no accurate CPU, memory or any other useful data. I was however able to pull sime OIDs from the MIB Walk utility and monitor them. I haven't seen any OIDs yet to monitor the Oracle environments or the seperate memory utilizations as in topas.

I will update with my progress as I get time.
