Does anyone have external environmental monitoring sending SNMP traps to NNM? i.e.: Host room ambient temperature, humidity, door access, etc... If so, what are you using to do the monitoring/trap sending? APC's EMS, Sensaphone's IMS-4000, OmniTronix SNMP-Link?
We have written our own SNMP Sensor agents to monitor those items. We used SNMP Research's Emanate to create our MIBs and proxy agent template structures (written in VisualC++). We designed our agents to talk to a legacy "box" via serial interface. The legacy "box" is an AMX chassis with input cards that report binary values (door open/closed, temp ABOVE/BELOW threshold).
If we did not have a legacy structure in place we might have looked for an off the shelf solution like you mentioned.
I remember seeing a little ethernet based controller called the BarioNet in a magazine. It has a built-in web server and can be used to monitor temp, humidity, water, entry points, fire, etc, and will send snmp traps on these events. It is also programmable and can be used to send custom snmp traps on any combination of events.
