Howdy,

Running CM 5.2
9608 phones.

How can i find out if the SNMP is enabled on these phones?

h323? in change system ip-options you can set that i think. Just try snmp walking from CMs Linux CLI

looks like its enabled within the h323.

Theres a line where it has "SNMPADD" with an ip address in the field,
and then theres a line underneath, "SNMPSTRING" which is set to PUBLIC

I'm assuming thats it.

## Note: Setting this parameter via CM (for H.323) or PPM (for SIP) is more secure
## because this file can usually be accessed and read by anyone on the network.
## Setting the value in this file is intended primarily for configurations with
## older versions of telephone, CM or PPM software that do not support setting
## this value from the server.

change system ip-options :)

i actually dont see anything in ASA under "change system-parameters ip-options" for SNMP...

Code:
change system-parameters ip-options Page 3 of 4

that's right.

fill them in :)
community avaya or public or whatever. source address is a node-name - like procr
then from linux in CM, snmpwalk -v2c -c avaya 1.2.3.4 presuming 1.2.3.4 is a phone IP.

Doublecheck the snmpwalk command - I just typed it from memory. But that's the idea.
If you have a duplex and your A server is 10.10.10.1 and B is 10.10.10.2 and procr is 10.10.10.3, you might need to add node-names CMA and CMB at 10.10.10.1 and 2 if the CM servers SNMP poll from their true IPs and not the virtual active IP

Or just add your PC 10.10.10.4 as a node name and use something like an iReasoning MIB browser or whatever to try.

I'm also tempted to say that stuff the phones learn from CM is stuff that CM overrides. Like, MCIPADD in the DHCP string or 46xx file is overwritten with that's in the network region for for survivable gatekeepers/what the CLANs have to say. I'd think it's entirely possible that having SNMPSTRING and SNMPADD in 46xx might get nuked by a blank form in change system ip-options - those "blank" values might be downloaded to the phone and override what you tried in your settings file.
