I have a big ol' switch with various modules. My problem is that I am trying to collect stats via snmp from the master module but I am having difficulty in mapping real ports with the MIB numbers.

What I would like is some way to detect the MAC addresses of the devices plugged in to each port so I can map them to my list of machines. Any way of doing this?

Thanks.

Can you give a better definition than big ol' switch?
If it's Cisco you may try 'sh cam'

show mac address-table will work for an IOS based Cisco switch.

I would suggest getting your hands on a MIB browser. There are several freebies out there on the Internet. I believe that MG Soft still has a free MIB Browser. Once you get your hands on this you walk the MIB of the switch until you get to the control table and Network Matrix fields which should give you the info you desire!
