I'm very new to Indesign. AutoCad has been what I've used to and am good at. With that said...

I would like to create a grid that is on every page (I'm doing a catalog) and make it so that my boxes/pics snap to the grid accurately. I created a grid...it's off when I zoom in...and placed and drew my boxes, again I zoom in and they are all over the place. Not anywhere near my grid. And yes, I have snap to guides on. It almost seems as if the guides are just visual helpers instead of tools that bridge the gap between my error and the computer's grid.

Any suggestions would be AMAZING!
[tongue]
THanks!

Try this:

View -> Show Baseline Grid
Create your own grid based on these lines
View -> Snap to Document Grid
Create and place your boxes
Save (or Save As)

That should do the trick.

thanks! I think that worked....funny how I look over things sometimes!

Indesign has a lot of options in this area, maybe too many.

First in ID preferences/Guides and Pasteboard, you set a snap zone for guides. It can be from 1-36. That's pixels. The bigger that number, the further from the guide the object can be when it snaps to the guide. Guides must be showing for the snap to work. I think the default zone is 4 pixels. Try making it 10 and move your objects to the guides and see if things work better.

ID also lets you snap to the document grid. If you have both guides and grid, the grid snap wins. Snapping to grid is activated via the View menu - like snap to guides.

In the Layout menu you can enable layout adjustment. There, you can also set a snap zone for adjustments.

That's awesome! Thanks!
