I have a 2000IPS with two SN716 consoles. The transmit volume from the handset is very low and the receptionist can hardly be heard on both external & internal calls. If she uses her headset the transmit volume is ok. This problem exists on both the consoles. Is there some setting I should make to handle this?
Thanks

Are those the handsets that came with or were spec'd for those consoles? The reason I ask is because I know in concept but am lacking in technical details, that there are several different types of handsets. I know the handset that came with my Interalia units is different than a standard handset for a phone - I believe they are carbon handsets but that's the part I'm not sure of. The other type that I think are used in phones and stuff I believe is dynamic, but there are also handsets that have volume control circuitry in them, etc now depending on what phone they came with, some are adapted for hearing aids, etc, so you usually cannot just pick one and install it - like if the originals got misplaced or something.

These are the same handsets that came with the consoles. Also they are the same as used on the D-Term phones. Maybe a carbon mic'd handset is the answer. It is worth a try.
Thanks.

In my day the standard handset was the G3 or G15, both use carbon transmitter elements. My Interalia announcer came with a Walker handset, WS-1145, K style handset. It uses a carbon element also. All the Northern NT7s and Interalia announcers use standard handsets with carbon elements.

But K style handsets come in different types depending on K model, manufacturer, and set type. The ones equipped with an Electret element will not work on sets designed for carbon ones.

Most of the electronic and digital sets manufactured now use Electret elements in their handsets. I don't think NEC has used carbon elements in years.

Does the NEC have any documentation covering this for the console?

Did you swap the handset with one from a D-Term set?

I tried a D-Term handset, it was marginally better. Another thing I found is that the volume improves if you disconnect the headset (don't have them both online at the same time). I may try and find a simple switch with handset RJ connectors so she can just switch from one to the other.
Thanks for your input.
Richard.
