I occasionally receive this error when scheduling reports to email (CE9). In the knowledge base there was an article that this was caused by a missing return in older versions of CE but that it had been fixed by a hotfix.

I only get this error occasionally. I think it is an exchange problem, my exchange admin seems to think it is an enterprise problem.

Any insights?

Hi Lisa,

We recently outsourced our email to another company. As a result I was getting the same error when I changed the settings in the job server’s email SMTP.

I went back and forth with their support people for weeks’ arguing about whose issue this was, CE’s or theirs. It turned out to be theirs. I proved this by using another third party SMTP. So, I tend to agree with you, it’s an Exchange problem.

Nuffsaid.

This error message can also be caused when the SMTP password specified in the properties on the job server is incorrect. Since all of your reports haven't failed, we can assume that the login information is correct in the default SMTP settings.

Are the reports that fail using custom SMTP settings at the report level, either on a scheduled or on-demand basis? Is it possible that the wrong password was entered?

They all use the default "from" account. I originally thought it was operator error, but I have scheduled reports that run every night on a recurrring schedule and sometimes they fail as well. That is why I really think this is an exchange error. The only thing that I can tie it down to is it happens around the same time period ... maybe I am conflicting with a backup... or the backup causes problems. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't completely nuts. They are just way overloaded right now and don't want another problem. I will push a little more.
