smtp virtual server

I am setting up 2000 server and am trying to get the smtp to work. I send a simple test text file from the pickup foler and it sits in the queue folder. Internet company says its not them, port 25 is open and says it's my machine. Have no clue can anybody help. If you need more info just ask, am ready to pull my hair out.

Where is it supposed to go from there? Do you have it configured to relay to a smarthost or something?

In the test text it has my hotmail address, it should go there, but never leaves my server.

I didn't mean what email addresses, I mean where is the server configured to send the email to once it receives it? Are you seeing anything in the SMTP logs?
