SMTP Queue, 1 Domain always Retry's

I have and Exchange 2000 SP4 Server with SP 3 on Exchange.

My Markteting Department, always has trouble sending e-mail to our Graphic Artist, and it seems a few other addresses at the same Domain.

Any Time a message is sent to XXX@buffnet.net it stays in the Queue in the retry Connection state.
I try to Force the Connection and it fails and goes right back to retry. Sometimes it does go through, and some times our server sends a failed notice a few days later.

I called Buffnet, and they said they have nothing blocking e-mail from our servers. I pinged the address, and it resolves the IP aggess of mail.buffnet.net, mail2.buffnet.net etc. I would assume that it is not DNS related.

I am not sure what the problem is, nor how to discribe it to the Admins at Buffnet. ANy help would be appreciated.

When the email's get returned as failed, what is the error code they generate?

I'll post back after this current one bounced back

I just received a Delay Messsage

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.

XXXUSERXXX@buffnet.net

Usually an indication of a problem on the receiving end, not on the senders side. The NDR will confirm that.

Hello,
Try telneting to the other company mail.buffnet.net 25 and see if you can pass mail via telnet... that will confirm a smtp problem or exchange...

Is your domain black listed with the company in question?

Here is the Reject Message from my Server

I am not sure of how to proceed with contacting the E-mail admins at the other site. Any Suggestions?
I tried Telneting to mail.buffnet.net and I get a connection lost message.

The problem appears to be on the buffnet server, not yours.

go to and run a report on your domain. Look to see if you have reverse lookup configured, if you dont, have a word with your ISP to configure it.

We had the same problem, this approach solved it

Cheers

Paul
