I have looked through these threads but I cannot find one specifically addressing my issue. But if this is a repeat question I apologize in advance.

I really really want to like Crystal Server! I am trying to set up reports to email automatically. After reading all the whitepages and pouring through various internet sites, I have been able to schedule reports both through the CMC and Infoview. I have even succesfully been able to have the email generate automatically but, seemingly on its own, the server stops working properly with SMTP and I get the following error:
CrystalEnterprise.Smtp: SMTP_E_TCPSOCKET_SEND(3)
All indications and research tell me that its not talking to the SMTP suddenly but I cannot figure out why!

Anyone else experience(d) this issue? solutions?

Hav you tried the work-around suggested in Knowledge Base article KBase Article ID:8145850 at support.businessobjects.com?

Is there an email size limit set on your email server?

This error keeps occuring on our server when the size of the report is too big for the email server.

Do you have clsutering environment in your company. IS it happening all the time or very rarely. From my observation, Sometime what happens is during the switiching of servers they will lose connection to SMTP server at that time you will get this error.

If i am wrong i am sorry for that.

the size of the email hasnt been the issue although I will keeo that in mind because as I get this process working, the attached report may become rather large so thanks for that comment.

sud,
there is no clustering issue in our environemnt. Its a pretty straight forward small scenario. Im investigating the possibility that the email server we are using might be causing the problem. eg. we are not using an outlook server but installed a less expensive GhostDaemon for our internal mail process.

As far as happening all the time, thats hard to answer. I would say of the reports that I have set up through this process they are working correctly about 25% of the time and I have yet to identify some sort of consistent server event which would cause this problem.

footnote... I have installed other Crystl schedulers in the network that email through SMTP and have had similar issues so my guess is the GhostDaemon software may be the ultimate culprit here. my next shot is to try scheduling through our outside email process but that server is maintained through a vendor.

thanks for the input!!!
