I have an exchange 2000 box which i am now able to connect to successfully over the internet using OWA. I can send and recieve email fine this way. I have users who use microsoft outlook at home and do not want to use OWA. Everytime they try to send internet mail they keep getting an error message the says"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Server response:550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for test@xydomain.com"
Error Number:0c800ccc79. When they try to send email to an address within the company it works fine. Does anyone know how to fix this.

The clients must authenticate to send SMTP.

You have this setup on the clients right?

I have figured out the problem, the SMTP virtual server was not configured to use DNS for internet email. Now it seems to work fine.

Can someone explain how to do this, is it under the Advanced tab? Please feel free to be very detailed.

Thanks
