SMTP auth through MailScanner/Sendmail gateway

I have a Debian box with MailScanner calling Clamav and Spamassassin acting as a spam/virus gateway for incoming mail. My windows mail server supports smtp auth, but now that the gateway receives the mail first, this feature no longer works for users outside my ip range. I've installed SASL2-bin and am in the process of configuring it, however the documentation talks about local users only. I have several thousand email accounts that change frequently and do not want to setup those accounts on the gateway box.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I figured it out.

/etc/default/saslauthd needs to have MECHANISMS="rimap -O my.imapserver.name"

rtfm got me on this one, man saslauthd had the info.
