Do you have your SLP specified? If so do you have both the SLP and MP manually added to your WINS? Both a couple things I had to do to get everything working properly.
Thanks. I followed the instructions provided, but still get these errors. Questions:
- Do you have to run WINS for SMS to work properly?
- How do you find out what security level you're running? Advanced or Standard
- Do you recommend re-installing SMS?
As long as you have AD and have extended the schema for SMS 2003 then I don't think you need WINS. Under site hierarchy in the SMS Administrators Console go to the properties
of the site and if the "Set Security" button is grayed out or if you click the 'Accounts' tab and it says the SMS Service Account is the "Local System" then you are on Advanced Security. I wouldn't reinstall simply b/c there has to be something being missed. That's what I found in setting up sms. There is always something being overlooked. Try this white paper from Microsoft. I'm still thinking it's something with rights to AD for SMS. LEt me know.
Thanks Ed....one other thing I forgot to ask. Is there a way to see if the schema is extended? I ran extadsch.exe after installing SMS and didn't get any errors, matter of fact..didn't get any messages at all. I just want to see if it's extended.
If you extended the schema by using ExtADSch, review the ExtADSch.log. There are several ways to check but this is probably the easiest.
The CN=Systems Management requires the accounts for the
SMS server and or the system account created for SMS3 to
have more than Full Control granted. It requires that you
go to Advanced, Permissions and grant Full Control to this
object and all child objects to allow the
SMS_Heirarchy_manager to function correctly.
Found the above just looking around on google groups too. Might be something to check out.
