Does anyone have any recommendations on which SMS WakeON LAN products out there that is compatible with Dell desktops? We are talking about the Optiplex GX-A, GX-1, GX-110, GX-150 and GX-260 clients. We like to see if we are able to wake these machines up and install applications at night.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Recommendations, no. Information, yes.

There's wolmode.com that allows you to turn off wol, or to turn it on for motherboard and/or adapter. Also wol32.com which is a single address wake-up command utility.

1E has Night Watchman and SMS Wakeup (
Dell OpenManage Client Administration has a WMI extension that can be triggered remotely too. Also see their Wired for Management information.

Another thought is to use the Auto Power On feature of these devices. If there was a utility such as wolmode.com that set auto power on then the devices would magically come alive at a given time without a magic packet having to go over routers, which is often an issue.

Thanks so much for the information on this. I have been researching the 1E tool. But I think the Dell manage is like to be more compatible our Dell workstations. Thanks so much for your help. That's very helpful.
