SMS Client Rename

Hi, I have a domain of about 300 computers in a school setting. We had to rename part of our lab from a computer name prefix of "LAB" to "LCLAB". after doing so, the "LAB" computers were deleted out of active directory. I am doing an Active Directory System Discovery as well. The "LAB" computer are still in SMS, so I manually deleted them. The new "LCLAB" computers are in SMS as well with Client=NO and Assigned=YES. Why don't these show up as client installed. Is it becuase it still thinks its a "LAB" computer? What can I do, do I need to uninstall and then reinstall the client on these "LCLAB" computers? Is there an easier way next time? Thanks.

the ID for this machine is the same, so the client is not reinstalled, however there is a instance in the display is new. Change the Clear install flags to a shorter period than that of Heartbeat discovery, this will remove the flag on the machine ID that says that this machine has the client installed, and will attempt to reinstall it, when it detect that it already has the client installed, it will reflag the Machine ID, which is linked to the new named instance, and should get you back upto date. Then, change your Clear install flags back to a longer period than the Heartbeat discovery.

The Clear Install Flags is found Under I think, Hierarchy > Site> Site Settings > Site Maintenance > Tasks

I'll give it a try. Thanks. Over the weekend I was able to get the clients reassigned by messing with how often heartbeat discovery took place. Thanks.

yeah, if you set it to a quicker time, then it will also run a few times and update the assignments, but you should still need to clear the install flags before you set it to run HB Disc.
