SMS Client Removal Question

Can I uninstall sms client accounts without the sms site server up and running.
I'd like to locally uninstall the two accounts (SMSCliSvcAcct& and SMSCliToknAcct&) from several clients.

I do not have sms running. I experimented with it on several clients on the network and decided not to use it.

Is there any down side to just deleting those two accounts
from the local clients?

there is a batch file you can run first

20cli **

cant remember exact name but search in your sms dir and it's there

Does this tool run from the server? I am looking for something that will run on the local client pc without having to attach to the server.

I think alot of this is really going to depend on what you want to achieve.

If you want to flush the client clean and remove registry entries etc then the 20clicln.bat is the way to go, however keep in mind that it sometimes does NOT remove all the associated registry entries (just because im pedantic) and also 'sometimes' leaves the smscfg.ini

If you are upgrading to sms2003, all you really need to do is run the capinst.exe (or so we have found after upgrading our W2K clients from 2.0)

If you want it removed from the server all we simply did was ensure we had the NETBIOS name correct and "right clicked" the client and deleted it from the specific collection.

Dont know if this will help you on your SMS journey, but it might?!

If I don't have access to the SMS server, how can I get my hands on the batch file? Barring that, how can I find a list of pieces that need to be deleted after the add/remove programs wizard has been run?

We have had problems with 20clicln.bat not removing everything and taking a long time. Lately we have been using a tool called SMSClientBuilder 1.2.8.0 and it works very quickly. It's available for free download from
