Recently, I try to manually run SMSMAN.exe for manual installation. I don't want to alter my current logon script, and I didn't check "Enable Windows Networking Logon Client Installation". The serverA is CAP and distribution point. When I run the executable, the wizard prompts that it couldn't locate Logon Point. Client and server are in the same subnet and can ping each other. I couldn't move on without solving this issue.
Please advise.

As far as I know you have to turn on "Networking Logon" because SMSMan.exe is looking for the NETLOGON-share and in it for the SMS-files to continue client-installation ;)

I second that. You have to have some form of logon method enabled (you don't need to modify your login scripts) before SMSMan can find a managed site. Rod Trent

How can I enable Networking logon on SMS server? The TCP/IP is binded with "Client for Microsoft Network". I see CAP_site is already shared...
Thanks for your clarificaiton.

How to enable "Networking Logon":
- start the SMS AdminConsole
- under "Site Database" / "Site Hierarchy" got to the desired Site and then to "Site Settings"
- now under "Client Installation Methods" and "Discovery Methods" enable "...Networking Logon..."

after you did this you should be able to see a few sms-files in the folder NETLOGON on you DCs

The situation we have is that the SMS server is in production network which I don't want to impact other regular users. If I turn it on, will all clients who logon to the network execute the sms client installation ?
Please advise.

Thanks.

As long as you don't check to modify the logon-script nothing will happen - but so you have the opportunity of installing the SMS-client manually with "SMSMan.exe /A /Q".

THanks for your advise. It works very well and it just flies.
Thanks.!!!

I try to install via dialup. However, when I click SMSMAN.exe, it gives me error stating .dll is missing, but it didn't name which file. I am running Win98. I want to test how long it takes to download the client. Is there anyway the server can identify if the client connects via dial up and not to push the client ?
Please help.
