We have a complicated network set-up which is mid-migration. The problem is that machines on our legacy network 10.0.0.0 cannot connect using SMS remote tools to servers on our new network - 192.168.0.0. We are using a migration router which NATs requests between the two networks. However SMS will not work

Any ideas?

I dont believe NAT is supported for SMS,

From Stan @ MS..

To get the full function of the SMS client, you need the IP's to be 'real'
for all the clients and servers.
In other words, the IP assigned to the client by DHCP should be the one you
see in the resource record in SMS, and the one returned when you ping the
machine from the site server.
There are numerous issues with NAT including but not limited to site
assignment, roaming, remote control and push installation.

ok that would explain a lot! do you have a link to anywhere where this is mentioned in official documentation? It would be good to proove to the powers that be....

another question...just been told that SMS is not working between networks either - where no NAT is being used - just route maps. Is there anything else we need to do to get this working between different IP subnets? All connectivity is there between

SMS works fine between networks...meaning multiple domains, takes a bit more to make it work between forests but its definately doable.

I'll see if I cant dig up a NAT comment from MS for you.

Explain this more...how is it not working? Are you testing from the client side? Trying to rrun a package or something? Or are you trying to remote control the client and can not?

You will have to make sure that you still have working resolution (verify DNS and WINS connectivity).

If you are modifying the subnets, you may have to adjust your SMS subnet boundaries...to include the new subnets in your SMS site. Otherwise, the clients may uninstall themselves.

If you are adding subnets (networks) to your network, you will have to make sure that all clients and servers are touched to include the gateway address...so that the can route to the new network...if you know what I mean.
