SMS adv. client - force installation of pkg immediately ???

Hi,
I would like to ask for some tip, how to wake up SMS advanced agent to install immediatelly what is advertised.

For example some script or something like this, what can be started manualy or whithin login script.

For me it is not enough to wait until the agent is "so kind" and installs packages.
We used ZenWorks before and there, after login, ZenWorks agent checked what is missing and performed all actions immediately.

I am gratefull for any tip or advice.

Hi!

You've to trigger a machine policy assignement request. But still it will take some minutes until it starts.

Sorry if this is an amatuer question, but how would I go about "triggering a machine policy assignement request", is this configurable in a GPO, default domain policy ?

as far as i know you just can trigger this manually... so you have to trigger it client per client.

Well there are scripts that can be found on the MyItforums (

but there is always a reason why certain installation does not happen right away. For example, some patches may be dependent on other patches. Some patches may require reboot while other may require files that have been recently updated by those patches that may require reboot. In addition, some may require that the computer runs a inventory to update that other requirements have been met.

You have two choices - wait up to 60 minutes (the default time) for your client PC to "pickup" the new advertisement. Or you can force your client PC to immediately look for and process any mandatory advertisements:
1. Go to client PC with SMS 2003 Advanced Client installed.
2. Start up CONTROL PANEL.
3. Under CONTROL PANEL, double-click SYSTEM MANAGEMENT.
4. Click on the ACTIONS tab.
5. Click on MACHINE POLICY RETRIEVAL & EVALUATION CYCLE
6. Click on the INITIATE ACTION button.
7. Wait - it can take "several minutes" to run
(Immediately is a relative term with SMS 2003).

I am not sure that you want to spend the time to do this on each machine. My thought is that if you get an enterprise solution, there should be a way to do the work centrally and automated instead of just going to each machine. Hence the scripting solution.
