Hello.

On my SMS server periodically (few times a day) when I start Management Console I’ll get this error message. "Connection Failed: \\SMSServer\root\sms\Site_NWT". Then latter I’ll get connected (in about 30-20 min). But after I get reconnected I have to reboot my SMS server and restart any currently running advertisements or otherwise they will not continue.

I assume I’m losing connection to SQL server. I checked. I have Ping to the SQL server, and SQL is running. Also SLQ server is hosting other DB used by other applications and they do not experience any interruptions in there work.

I would appreciate if you can help me to diagnose this problem or if you have any ideas what causing it. May be you can suggest some tests I can run or logs I can look at.

Thank you in advance.

shared sql servers hosting other stuff is a very very bad thing in sms....

its really hard to say what is going on but perhaps concurrent connections problem?

perhap look at the sql error logs:

To view the SQL Server error log from SQL Server Enterprise Manager

Expand a server group, and then expand a server.

Expand Management, and then expand SQL Server Logs.

Click the SQL Server Log to view it. Error log information appears in the details pane.
The Microsoft Windows® 2000 or Windows NT® 4.0 application log provides an overall picture of events that occur on the Windows 2000 or Windows NT operating system.

Thank you for the reply.

I'll view the logs you mentioned and I’ll see if I can get dedicated SQL server for my SMS.

Thanks again.

Allan.
