Installed: SMS 2.0 SP3
When I try to update the Site configuration via "Settings/Control Panel/Systems Management" I receive the following error: Update Sites Failed !

Does anyone know why this happens and/or what causes this eror ?

Happy Easter !.....

This error is not specific to one problem,it basically just means your client is corrupted. Try running 20clicln.bat and reinstall the client.

I did this this already but the problem still exists :(
Funny thing is that also the client part of the primary site server has this specific problem and I dont't know why....
Also, when I try to repair the installed components via "Settings/Control Panel/Systems Management" by selecting and clicking "Repair" the component is in mode "repairing/pending installation" for several hours.

I have the exact same problem and it is driving me round the bend!

We only started having this problem after upgrading to SP3, now we cannot install any new clients.

Help Please Anyone!!

This is really bizarre,

If you add the users in Domain Admins group, use 20clicln.bat then reboot, login etc SMS client installs OK

Not the best solution in the world but it seems to work here

Are your desktops restricted in any way via policies and such? In locked down environments, client installations is a known issue.

It is supposedly rectified w/ SMS 2.0 SP3 + several hot fixes. MS has been working w/ us on this issue and that seems to be the way we are going right now in our testing.

Dear Chris71,

Did you ever find an actual solution for this problem? I am currently getting the 'update sites failed' error. My login accounts are part of the admins group so I can't see where it could be a security setting issue. Any suggestions on getting this resolved? My computer is currently an SMS client and I can remote ctr into it so the components seem to be running fine. I noticed this when I started pushing out packages just recently and after I tried to go to Adv Programs in Ctr Panel I also recieved an error that said 'failed to connect to Adv Programs server.' What is considered the 'Advertised Programs Server'? Thanks in advance for any help you may provide :)

Oh by the way - it seems to be happening to all workstations [neutral]

After upgrading to SP5 and not running in Terminal-Session mode this problem vanished ans was never seen again.

Chris
