This is a bit general, but I would be most grateful if anyone has had any problems with SMS 2.0 and Dell PC's, I would like to hear about them. The company I am with are about to embark on a large scale project with the above combination and I would like to know about any related issues. Thank you.

We have deployed a couple hundred Dell Optiplex GX1's in our SMS 2.0 site without any problems. In fact, the only brand we've had any glitches with is HP Vectra's, and we were able to work those out.

we have a user community with Dell gx1, gxi, gxl as well as hp vextra and kayak. The Dells have presented no problems what so ever.

I have been involved a couple of implementations. I have not seen any issues with Dell machines. The one issue was with older Gateway 2000 machines. For some bizaar reason in order to run MS Office on these machines there needs to be a path statement in an autoexec.bat file. When SMS installs the client piece it adds a directory to the path. This made the path to long and thus caused MS Office not to function at all.<br>

Just thought I would share cause it was so bizaar.

I have seen problems with Dell PCs in relation to SMS 1.2. Is the site an upgrade from 1.2 or a clean install? The problem was due to an older video driver. Downloading and installing a more current one from Dell's site, fixed the problem. <p>Rod Trent<br><a href=mailto:rtrent@swynk.com>rtrent@swynk.com</a><br><a href= Systems Management Server</a><br>

we have sms 2 sp 1 with about 100 dells. We often get a problem when users log on. The machine slows to a crawl and then says it is out of system reboots. I think it is something to do with the hardware scan. Doesnt seem to make much difference weather they are running the proprietry open manage client or not.

We have about 60 Dell GX1 computers here. I noticed a problem with SMS and the Dell computers right away but soon found that it isn't just the Dells. With SMS 2.0 there is a problem with the remote control tools loading on a Win95 computer. It has to do with a registry setting and such. The Q article is q266232. This is a hotfix for SMS 2.0 SP2 that will fix the problem only after you make sure a registry setting is set on all win95 computers.

We have also found a SMS/Client Access problem with WIN2K and the keyboard. That Q is Q269177.

Hope this helps you some!
