SMS 2.0 inserts a line into the autoexec.bat file on Windows 9x clients to determine the directory for the client software. This line is about 90 characters long. On our HP Vectras (at least those with a BIOS version of EPP revision 1.90) any lines in the autoexec.bat longer than 80 characters get truncated on restart. This causes SMS 2.0 to think that the originally inserted line is not there, and it inserts it again every log in. This eventually floods and corrupts the autoexec.bat.
We also have Gateways, Dells, etc., but this only occurs on HP Vectras.
Any suggestions?

We used to have a problem with HP Vectra XA 6/200 and Windows 95. It was related to IDE-drivers. Anyway what Vectra type your using ?

We have the same problem here with the vectra's. It is the Aztec sound card causing the problem or I should say one of the switches at the end of the line in the autoexec.bat. Its the a: /on switch. The only problem is if you rem the line out after a reboot it comes right back, if you remove the line it comes right back. We have not found a fix yet.

You need to remove the PNP call from the registry, I believe it is located in HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\RunServices.
We had the same problem with our Win95 clients, the Aztec software that installs the PNP piece takes a 'snapshot' of the AUTOEXEC.BAT and attempts to recreate it if any changes occur.
Removing the software will not disable the sound card in any way.

Good Luck
