Does anyone know where I can obtain Free call logging software (smdr) to use on my PABX. I would like to look at the frequency that the lines/extns are used.
Wouldn´t it be enough, to link your SIU/NIU with a PC, start fiol, open a logfile and later then use EXCEL to load the logfile and to work with it. It is not proffesional, but it works for a while... At least it is enough to give your chief an overview...
Are you are familar with Linux/Unix and PERL?
Set up a server (eg Redhat on an old PC). Download a free program from redhat.com called 'ttywatch'. This manages your serial port and logs the data to any file. In our PERL prog we have the line
This sets the port settings (com1) and logs the data to the directory /home/cdr/Logs
the filename is todays date.
I can post the file, if it's any use to you.
Thanks to you both for replying. I am not familiar with PERL wouldn't know what to do with it. But thanks for the suggestion.
If there isn't anything out there that will do the job I will simply try logging it through Procomm and put it through Excel like lalrl suggested. Just wanted to try and reduce the hassle. If it turns out I need to run it all the time will have to get the boss to buy a program. (you know what there like.)
(I haven't used it, just stumbled accross it). If you really want full call accounting, and not just a way to go back and look if necessary, they'll have to invest the $$ into call accounting software.
It's going to be very messy using excel. The MD110 breaks up the CDR fields in all kinds of strange ways.
Another suggestion: where I work we take on college students during the hols. Anyone doing comp science will be very familar with Linux/ PERL. Generally we find they bring great new ways of doing things.
We're real cheapskates!!
