No nortel meridian or succession products support a smdi link. That aml thing is a propritary connection for a Meridian mail. Thats why all third party vm systems use digital set emulation to hook to it.
i've got a couple of octels behind 81's and they are all using 2616 phone's without problems.. even in the mermail and cp, we build stations for channels to log in, and transfer.. the aml does say it will but no one at nortel will give me any information on it. hooked up a 81 to a rolm voice mail once and it was a large pain, no aml just sets...sorry if i misled you
No you did not mislead me at all. We have a customer that has an 81c and an Octel 350 with Pic n cards (2616 sets). And one of the problems is that some of the phones use a class of service feature that blocks the called party from seeing the callers number. That does not work with voicemail. We are trying to find a way around this so the voicemail will work with this but as far as we are being told you can’t flag it anywhere but the attendant class so the operator can see the calling number on the display.
They are also beta testing a new system from Nortel that can only do message waiting via a smd link right now.
the acd group must have mwc=yes for vma..then alog should work.both will be a better setup for a aml to work with mail. also read the manual on the ast prompt.. it needs to =yes and the next prompt need to = your aml link.. that might solve the problem.. the param's req to get those prompts may take some research..but it will work, and your right nortel tech sup will not be able to talk you through it, it's hard enough to find one that knows two diff nortel products, let alone one that knows another vendors product
point of interest, you will have to have sets built even with a aml link..the mail still uses a soft set to transfer and light lamps..that does not tell me that they have to be phyical or not... a search of ntps are of no use in this mater, maybe they canchange the name to nottell..it seems to be more discriptive
