Why smbmount is not implemented on AIX433??

I've a Samba server 2.2.0 on a AIX 4.3.3 box and i try to mount some shares on another AIX 4.3.3 box; but it seems to be impossible !

Maybe the AIX kernel is not able to do that...

I hope someone knows the answer cause i've not found it anywhere else

Thanks a lot

I've tried to find what to ask here... and you're asking just what I wanted to ask.
I hope it works...
Unix was made by and for smart people.

I've found the following on the Samba official website :

"The smbfs filesystem is a mountable SMB filesystem for Linux. It does not run on any other systems."
See for details

In fact my supposition was good : there is no way to mount smb filesystem on AIX,cause the kernel is not built to.

How disgusting .. :-((

Maybe AIX5L can do that, who knows ... ;-)

As I said in a previous thread. Use sharity. It is a smb client.

(No, I have no affiliation with them. But I needed to accomplish this 1 1/2 years ago. I was pleased to locate them.)

The only way to do this using AIX is to upgrade to AIX 5.2,
install bos.cifs_fs, you can then try
# mount -v cifs -n pezman/user1/pass1 -o uid=201,fmode=750 /home /mnt

Also gives you a nice smit option.
