Looking to purchase new telephone. Has anybody had any luck using element manager using smart phone. I've heard blackberry's definitely will not work because of Java. Also, what about using NRU for Norstar. Realize different forum, but just seeing. Figure would probably need to remote into PC for that. Finally, IP softphone for PDA. Any input on these is appreciated. Haven't seen anything looking back on last couple of months.

Sadly, Element Manager was designed to work on Windows 2000 / XP and therefore it won't work on a smartphone, or other platform. I've tried executing it under other OS's, such as OS X and Linux, and it won't work (even though it was written in Java). NRU is pretty much the same deal; and won't work on non-windows systems.
If you wanted to use these two programs, you'd either have to remote desktop into a computer as you mentioned (which can be difficult to use, as well as can only be used with BCM / Norstar systems accessible from the computer), or you can purchase an UMPC device that runs Windows XP / Vista, such as the OQO, Sony VAIO UX, etc.... however they're pricey.
The MVC2050 IP Softphone works pretty well, however there are two catches to use it. First of all, MVC2050 is designed to work on Touchscreen phones / PDAs (which means the phone must run Windows Mobile Professional / Classic) and will not operate on smartphone editions. Also, it works best when the device has access to the BCM either locally (over wifi through the local network) or over a VPN connection.
