When are trying to install Messaging 5.2 and wanted to try the Smart Host option. We only have one 5.2 server (the one we are trying to install) so when the installation asked for a default smart host we pointed it to one of our 4.15 servers.

We can send and receive mail internal to the 5.2 server but are unable to send mail outside the 5.2 server. We are now wondering if a Messaging 4.15 server can act as a Smart Host for a Messaging 5.2 server. We've also thought about changing the default Smart Host but none of the manuals have information on how to do that. There is reference to the default Smart Host in the imtaconfig.log file but we assume this is only a log file and not a place to set the Smart Host.

We would very much appreciate any tips on using Smart Host or pointers to good documentation. The 5.2 manuals (Admin, Reference, etc.) are quite lacking on this subject.

Thanks.

Hi,

look at the imta.cnf file and look for the word 'daemon'. This keyword and the host after mentioned right after it, make the default smart host of your messaging system.

You can also have a smarthost per domain but then you find in the LDAP server tree (DC, see admin manual).

Yes, loockb is right. and following is the detail:
--------------------------------------------------------
tcp_local
tcp_local smtp mx daemon email.iei-sh.com remotehost inner switchchannel identnonelimited subdirs 20 maxjobs 7 pool SMTP_POOL maytlsserver maysaslserver saslswitchchannel tcp_auth
tcp-daemon
--------------------------------------------------------
and the "daemon email.iei-sh.com" is the seeting of smart host, when outbound the email, will directly forward to mail server email.iei-sh.com. So, just delete it to disable the function of smart host. -----------------------------------
