I'm new to SBS. I'm trying to figure out how I can remove the desktop shortcuts that get created when an new user logs in for the first time on a workstation. We use roaming profiles as well. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but anytime someone logs in a "Company" and "username" desktop shortcut gets added to their desktop. The "Company" desktop shortcut doesn't point to anything (dead link) because the share was removed, but the shortcut still gets placed on all the users desktops.

This is really annoying. Please help.

sounds like youve got a script running still somewhere that shouldnt be

No I've looked. Actually, I've found out that in SBS 2000, SBS copies the shortcut links to the user's desktops on login. This feature is apparently hard coded into SBS 2000 and is a feature that has been removed in SBS 2003.

beautiful....sbs is a bastardized system....does strange things and goes against nearly every recommendation ever made for windows....

glad u found ur answer though...ill have to remember that, although typically I don't deal with SBS...

Your easiest solution is to have a login script check for the existence of the files and if they are there delete them. Vbscript can do it easily.
