When a newly made 25m lead is fitted (in place of one that was too short but worked fine)between pc card and belkin hub/switch I get a slow blinking from (0.5Hz(ish) both ends and no connection to network.

I've checked for continuity by putting an "dummy" network card at one end of the cable and checking resistance at the other end getting c.155 Ohms across any combination of pins i.e. no dead pins/wires. The wire colouring to pins match at both ends. i.e. to straight connection standard.

All other pc's/cables connected to the hub/switch network fine with leds permenantly lit or rapidly flashing. The problem pc to hub networks ok with another, shorter lead (10m).

Is there a cable problem? Is 25m to long? (pc card (cardbus) literature says upto 100m). What does the slow blink mean? Please help!

25m is not too long from switch to nic but, yes there is a problem with the cable. test with an ohm meter or cable tester using all open pairs then short one pair at a time and test for continuity between the shorted wires and opens between all others. Make sure you are using either 568a or 568b wiring on both ends.

The answer has always been 42

Redo the ends of the cable and if still doesn't work replace the whole cable. I ran into the same issuse when trying to squeeze a run in with a few others and ended up breaking a wire or something. It worked fine after I redid the ends.

Many thanks all sorted..T'was dodgey wiring on a plug. I suppose I didn't want to believe a new "tested" lead, just made, could possibly be faulty. I'll check them myself before installing in future.
Thanks again chaps
