I have just installed NAV2004 and whenever I have auto-protect enabled (which is and should be always) webpages take agesssss to load up. I have ADSL and without auto-protect enabled it takes about a second to load an average page but with auto-protect enabled they take over 10 seconds to load. If I disable autoprotect when the page is in the process of loading it pops up straight away.

hmmmm, can anyone help?

Thanks

I am having the same problem. NAV 2003 did not seem to have this effect. I'd feel alot better with autoprotect on but I can't take the slow down! I have a message in to Symantec. I'll report back when I hear from them.

Thanks, yup its a real pain. Let me know what you find. Incidentally I will be trashing and reloading everything on my PC next month (its well overdue!) so that will probably fix it. I will install NAV on first and then start reloading other software and see at what point it slows down.

Just received a response from Symantec it is as follows:

Thank you for contacting Symantec Online Technical Support.

In your message you wrote:

Dean, Symantec is investigating this issue. The cause is unknown, and there is no solution at this time. In some reported cases, as a workaround, disabling Auto-Protect compressed file scanning or adding .js files to Auto-Protect exclusions fixes this issue.

The exclusion of the *.js files worked for me!!!

Thanks. I will try the .js thing tonight. At least Symantec are aware of the problem. Its a real pain, I hope they fix it soon as I will be none too pleased if I find I still have the problem after reinstalling my PC!

Thanks

Just to let you know, I have set .js files as an exclusion and this has fixed the problem!

Thanks :)

I can't install the update. I've been working with Symantec and they have not found the problem yet. In the meantime the *.js problem returned even though I had excluded it. Apparently as a result of "trying" to update it seems. I then discovered that if I used the smart scan option and removed the js and js? file types the problem went away..... again..... for now... I am following up with Symantec.
