Okay, I have a IIS server on W2K. As you tell client is VERY slow at updating. So having said that lets leave out the obvious upgrade to current version etc, not going to happen in the immediate future, this issue needs to be fixed.

The web server is in the DMZ. Holes from the DMZ to the LAN for NetBIOS and CIFS. 137/138 UPD 139/445 TCP from the Web server to the particular servers on the LAN.

browsing these folders is SLOW. IE quite often times out. IIS console is very slow and once in while it throws an error that it has lost connection, ussually a refresh works.

I have taken the Firewall out of hte equation by plugging the web server in on the LAN and ginving it a temp staic IP and same issue. I have updated the NIC drive.

Any Suggestions?

Check the following

- Do you get the same results when using IP vs DNS (hostname)
- Duplex mismatch on your network connection
- Do you have complicated permissions setup on your file shares (ie large group memberships)
- Does this folder have many files (like in the hundreds of thousands)
- Issues with your storage subsystem
- Have you checked the event log

traced this back to a faulty NIC driver. The server is going away but had to fix this in the interm. Funny thing though when you reboot you need to reaply the NIC driver or its slow again. Very strange. Thanks for the input though.
