slow transfer: old P II-466Mhz - 1mb/s rate

Computer: HP Vectra P II 466, 128 RAM, HD1 10 Gb, HD2 40Gb.
OS (w98) loads normaly for a P II. (as for speed)
The transfer rate is very loooow...
Even if it's HD1 to HD2; 2to2 or 1to1 the transfer rate is under 1mb/sec. Even the network transfer (local lan) is about 800-900kbps (Lan card 10/100Mbps)

Bios has nothing left to tweak about IDE, UDMA, prefetching and stuff.

Any ideas? windows drivers? where;s the limitation? Who's limmiting me ?

Make sure all connections are secure, enable DMA for both HD's in Device Manager, update the AV program and do a virus search, run Ad-aware, Spybot, and CWShredder to remove spyware, and shut down all programs running in the background by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del on the Desktop.

If no luck, then install the Slave HD on IDE 2(assuming it's currently on IDE 1).

If no good, then install each HD in another system one at a time as Slave, and check its transfer speed.
If either one is slow there, then it's probably bad.

If they work fast in another system, then use a different known working IDE cable, connect a different power lead in the original system.

Found the problem: DMA in Device manager, and i think the ide cable was bad.

thanx all
