Slow to receive email in Outlook 2003 with Exchange 5.5

I have Exchange 5.5 and whenever anyone sends me a message there is at least a 20 second delay before I receive it in Outlook 2003. I know this because I have another machine with Outlook 98 showing the same mailbox and I always get the message on that one first. Outlook XP is also fine. It just seems to be a 2003 issue.

Does anyone know why this is?

Not unusual if you have cached mode turned on.

Outlook is then responsible for checking if there is mail which it does on a semi-random basis so it can be slower.

However I still prefer cache mode since working directly online with 5.5 can actually be quite slow to send attachments etc.

I have experienced the same problem, cache mode does not help. Reverted all Outlook 2k3's back to 2k.

Have you tried Help - detect and repair on the Outlook 2003 this fixed the problem once for me

Have you got the journal running?

Unless you need it, switch it off. It slows down everything.

It appears to be the Cached Exchange mode that is causing the delay in receiving messages. I tured it off and I got each message within seconds. Unfortunately when I turned it off I kept getting the message reporting that Outlook is waiting for the Microsoft Exchange Server. I have not had any good feedback from users yet about Outlook 2003. Outlook XP and earlier are perfect.

I don't recommend using Outlook 2003 with Exchange 5.5 - too many issues!

You might be having some interaction with your email virus scanner causing some of the delays. We just found that McAfee V7.0.0 was causing long delays in receiving emails with attachments and when attempting to open them. This was causing delays of 30 seconds or more.

Might want to check into that subject. Easy enough to do...simply disable virus scanning at the client side.

Its the cached Exchange Mode that causes the delay. All our clients have NAV corp edition which causes no problems whatsoever. Thanks anyway.
