Hi All

On several NT Workstations, I've had complaints of slow startup and shutdown hanging. Ive also found that the PC's are not picking up my policy settings on the netlogon share. This has only happened recently. Here are 2 things Ive noticed:

1. When the workstation hangs on shutdown, if I CTRL-ALT-DEL, it gives me the unlock workstation screen (it doesnt reach the 'saving files' bit of the shutdown it seems) I can then log in again and then shutdown works.

2. I am running a bdc and have my own policy, not shared with the bdc, who are running different policies from their netlogon share. But my PC's seem to pick up the bdc settings occasionally. We also seem to pick up other settings not on either domain controller. There are only 2 servers on the network, so I dont know where the settings are coming from. They are definitely not set by the users as I have disabled access to the Display Icon.

Help!

msedbbw@hotmail.com

Working towards MCSE and looking for work overseas :)

We have the same problem on some new machines with NT 4.0 SP 5 Workstations. We upgraded a few of the workstations to see if that would help with the shutdown problems, but no help. Our slow login and shutdown problems are only for some new Dell C600 Latitude Notebooks. Would you problem be related to Notebooks also? Have you reached any sort of resolution for the slow startup/hanging shutdown problems?

We had the same problem and it turned out to be a faulty NIC in our PDC. Swapped it out and it worked ok.
