Why is it, that my Sharepoint is so slow?

It is on a 100BTX Switched Network. There are no other services running on the machine except VirusScan 7.1, and I have turned off on-access scanning on the databases, etc...

There are only a few sites, and they are pretty small, as they are very young sites, and have not yet been populated with a lot of information.

Even on the server where the SP is located just bringing up... takes at least 12-20 seconds...

Hardware Info:

Athlon AMD 2500+
1GB RAM (333)
1GB VIR MEM
40GB 8MB Cached Hard drive (133)

Hi,

Have you checked your network settings? For example if you are running Full Duplex on the switch but have the networks card on the machines (Servers) set to AUTO detect. Make sure you use the same settings everywhere. I have had this problems with other websites. The Switch has been running on Full Duplex, but then when I checked the network card settings on the servers they were running on automatic.

But you might already have checked that...but it is just a suggestion :)

Cheers,
Thomas

this is normal behavior. After the first page has loaded once, the next pages should come quicker. This has to do with IIS caching.

can't dig up a url explaining this cuz busy restoring....[bigglasses]

Thanks all for your help. Yes, the first page takes a while to load and then all subsequent pages come a lot quicker. Checked all machines and they are all set to AUTO/AUTO. Again, thanks for all your help.
