I'm having an issue with all the XP computers on my Windows 2000 domain... They all take a really long time to log in users. I've included the IP info for both the server and one of the workstations, so I can get some help with the troubleshooting.

Hmm, a problem. And I'm not even paststep 1 yet. I checked for DNS, and it says it's installed. So I went to install the zone, and the server computer has a big red X through it and when I click on it it says that it cannot contact the DNS server.

OKay, nothing I've tried is bearing any fruit, and things have actually gotten worse. The server went down completely, and now nobody can get on the internet. So maybe I should start from scratch... So here's the scenario.

1. The Win 2k server computer has two network cards installed inside it, one labeled WAN and one labeled LAN (it wasn't done by me). The WAN settings were configured manually, and the LAN obtains it's address from the router. The settings are displayed at the beginning of this post.

2. Any address in the mix starting with 192.168.1.xxx is associated with the router, which contains the static IP assigned to the room the computer is in (each room in the building has it's own address, but all the computer I want on my domain are in the same room). The static address the router contains matches the manual settings for the WAN card mentioned in #1.

3. I don't know if this detail is relevant, but under the TCP/IP settings for the WAN card, two DNS suffixes are appended.

4. Active Directory IS present on the Win 2k server computer, as well as DNS. However, now the computer is telling me that I can't contact the DNS server.

5. All the other computers that I want on the domain have Windows XP installed on them and had the whole slow log-in problem. Of course, now the server doesn't work at all, so no logging in at all is possible, except for me, as a local admin.

6. This server was intially set up by someone else (contacting this person is an impossiblity), and all the computers (not counting the server) had Windows 2000 installed. New computers were brought in since then though, so now they're all XP Pro.

So, there's the gist. 1 server, 7 workstations, a router (and 2 switches). Can I get a working domain with fast log-ins out of that?
