Our office is having slow printing response times when using both direct IP printing and Novell NDS printing, using the HP PostScript printer drivers for HP 4000n and 4050n printers. We are primary using PowerPoint and Word documents. When the documents print out, there is a 5 to 15 second delay between pages. We are running SP2 and SP3.

Have you tried installing the non-postscript drivers? Jennifer Sigman

Yes, using the PCL5 or PCL6 Drivers do print much faster, but when we had Win98, using the PostScript driver was fine.

PostScript drivers are weird... I've always avoided using them. I'd stick to the plain PCL5 or 6 drivers for those 2000 machiines. Jennifer Sigman

We need the PostScript driver for our firm templates to print correctly.

Bleh... well, you'll probably have to live with the delay, then. You might want to check on the HP Printer forum here on Tek-Tips, tho. Jennifer Sigman

If those clients have Novell distributed print services installed I would get rid of it. Win2k and novell print services dont mix well and it can cause printing problems, such as very long printing times or not printing at all. Unless your clients have to use the novell print service I would just print via tcp/ip.

I had a similar problem when we used to run in the same environment with the same printers.

Try this: Get the most up-to-date NW client available.

Go to the printers properties for each printer in question and set it to "print directly to printer". Play with the spool settings and see if the delay stops.
