Slow printing with a receipt printer

Sorry if this isnt the right place for it, but there are lots of knowledgeable ppl here that can prob help.

I have a receipt printer, Axiohm 716, that i cant get to print fast. it seems to prnt line by line. it does this with all windows apps. if i use dos its really fast.

I have tired fiddling with the setting with no help.
Any1 got any ideas

Not familiar with the printer in question, but it could be that dos just sends the data straight to the printer, and the printer uses its own in built fonts to print the characters, whereas windows is probably sending the data to the printer as an "image" thereby taking a lot longer to print out, as it is really printing the text graphically.

You could try using the Generic / text only printer driver, and setting up the printer control codes the way they are set up in your dos applications to see if that speeds things up.
